Amazon to allow e-book lending for Kindle owners
Amazon is to allow Kindle users the ability to “lend” a copy of a title in their library to another friend/Kindle user for a 2 week loan period in an effort to bring a key part of owning a paper book to its Kindle device.
Currently this service is only available in the United States but it is expected to launch in Amazon UK and other Countries in the coming months.
Obviously, Amazon has had to take into account what has happened over the last few years in terms of music sharing/illegal downloading, therefore the 14 day loan is provided only via email to a single person per title and the original Kindle owners copy will become inaccessible until the 2 week grace period has expired.
It will be interesting to see if this style scheme takes off and whether a 2 week period is deemed long enough for readers to get the most out of the loaned titles.
