Sega is the latest victim to hackers and Lulzsec offers to track those hackers

Sega’s Sega Pass system is currently offline as it becomes the latest victim to hackers. Sega is the latest high profile gaming platform to be hit by hackers, this is followed closely by where hackers attacked Sony, Nintendo and Codemasters taking sensitive customer information.

Hackers were able to access Sega’s Pass system and take information stored on customers such as, names, email addresses, date of births and encrypted passwords.  Debit / Credit Card details were not taken hackers as payments for Sega are managed by another company.  Sega suggests that anyone who uses the same or similar user-name and password for other sites to change their details straight away.

Sega was quick to react and emailed Sega Pass users, it said “Over the last 24 hours we have identified that unauthorised entry was gained to our Sega Pass database. We immediately took the appropriate action to protect our consumers’ data and isolate the location of the breach. We have launched an investigation into the extent of the breach of our public systems.”

Who did this? No one has claimed victory to this hack as of yet, however one of the strangest thing to come out of this is that Lulzsec which recently claimed success on various hacking attempts has tweeted that it had nothing to do with this hack and offers their support in capturing the hackers who attacked Sega.

“@Sega – contact us. We want to help you destroy the hackers that attacked you. We love the Dreamcast, these people are going down.” tweeted by Lulzsec
